STUDENTS' STRATEGIES TO OVERCOME ENGLISH SPEAKING ANXIETY

Speaking anxiety appears detrimental to English learners since it can lead negative self-perceptions, mental slowness, and poor performance. As a result, students cannot achieve high degree of competence, particularly fluency. Education at Universitas Ahmad Dahlan Yogyakarta experienced fear speaking because they find challenging communicate with lecturers peers in English. This study investigates students' English-speaking levels, the factors that cause anxiety, strategies use overcome anxiety. qualitative utilized questionnaires interviews answer research questions collect data. The questionnaire 33 statements related English; semi-structured were used data for this study. Six interviewed, 85 third semester respondents questionnaire, random sample. found 34 had moderate while influenced communication apprehension, test evaluation. reduce are preparation, positive thinking, relaxation, peer seeking. Those could results be as input who experience teachers understand their better.
